Jack Doherty and Joan Doherty have been partners in 'Doherty Porcelain' for more than thirty years. The business began in Ireland after training at the Ulster College of Art and Design and a period of work at the Kilkenny Design Workshops. In the early days they shared the production of domestic ceramics made in both stoneware and porcelain. In later years, while they still share the same studio and soda kiln, their individual work has taken different directions. Jack Doherty makes thrown and slab built functional forms while Joan produces a range of hand built and press molded animal sculptures. Jack Doherty is currently Chair of the Craft Potters Association of GB.and is involved with the organisation of potters conferences. fairs and workshops. |
